Catalina Julve has been selected through the open call of the IEB to participate in ARTESANTANDER 2024

The Institut d'Estudis Baleàrics (IEB) has a collaboration agreement with ARTESANTANDER 2024 to schedule a solo exhibition by a Balearic artist at the fair, which takes place from July 12 to 16 in Santander, Spain. The exhibition project has been selected through an open call.

Catalina Julve's project Paisatge amb cavall (Landscape with Horse) has been selected by a committee made up of the director of the fair, Mónica Álvarez Careaga, and Carmen Quijano, curator and mediation manager of the fair.

ARTESANTANDER is a well-established contemporary art fair which celebrates its 32nd edition this year. Participating galleries and projects are selected for their curatorial risk and international reach, which together constitute a very interesting and diverse showcase of contemporary art. The fair aims to make knowledge about contemporary art and also the collecting of art more accessible to new audiences. At the same time, it promotes a responsible culture that amplifies underrepresented voices, such as artists working from the peripheries or women artists, regardless of the moment in their career. Parallel to the fair is held the 11th Meeting of Art Collecting, Contemporary Art and Society: Professionalization in Contemporary Art. The public-private collaboration, organized jointly with the Institute of Contemporary Art (IAC) and the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP).

Catalina Julve's Paisatge amb cavall brings together recently created work, made during the artist's stay at the Portuguese pencil factory Viarco, in São João da Madeira, thanks to the New Drawing Talent Prize that was awarded to her in the Drawing Room Lisboa & Viarco fair of 2023, where she participated with works exhibited in the Focus of the Balearic Islands, produced by the IEB. The proposal presents drawings in different formats made with colored pencils and graphite, as a result of the exploration process with the tools and materials made available to the artist by Viarco. Paisatge amb cavall poses an exercise in introspection by the artist, who with this project recreates cultural and landscape references from her stay in the North of Portugal.

Recent exhibitions by Catalina Julve include Xalet, at the Sa Màniga Auditorium; D.I.D.O.L., in the Esglèsia Nova of Son Servera (2023); Una parcel·la obscura, policromía d’una rebel·lió, at the Sa Nostra Cultural Center in Palma (2022), and Hippies Always Welcome, at the Manacor History Museum (2019).
