Artesantander 2024

The Institute of Balearic Studies (IEB) and ARTESANTANDER have a collaboration agreement to program a solo exhibition by a Balearic artist at the IEB stand at the fair.

Landscape with Horse, by Catalina Julve, curated by Marta Mantecón, has been selected through an open call by the selection committee made up of the director of the fair, Mónica Álvarez Careafa, and Carmen Quijano, curator and head of mediation for the fair.

The project brings together recently created works, produced during the artist's stay at the Portuguese pencil factory Viarco, in São João da Madeira, thanks to the New Drawing Talent Award that was awarded to her at the Drawing Room Lisboa & Viarco fair in 2023, where she participated with the works exhibited in the Focus of the Balearic Islands, produced by the IEB. The proposal presents drawings of different formats made with coloured pencils and graffiti, as a result of the process of exploration with the tools and materials made available to the artist by Viarco.

Landscape with Horse poses an exercise of introspection by the artist, who seeks with this project the landscape and cultural references of her stay in the north of Portugal.

In parallel to the fair, on 15 and 16 July, the XI Meeting of Collecting, Contemporary Art and Society: Professionalisation of Contemporary Art is being held. It has public-private collaboration and is organised jointly with the Institute of Contemporary Art (IAC) and the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP).
